Why Water Is Important | No1 Fitness

Everyone and their dog keeps saying that we need to drink more water…but why? Today we’ll run through what’s so important about water and the benefits of drinking enough of it.

Why is water important?

The human body is made up of over 60% water, the majority of it is stored in our cells or attached to molecules such as carbohydrates and protein.

What happens if I don’t drink enough?

A few things. The main being dehydration. Symptoms of dehydration include:

  • Thirst
  • General fatigue/feeling weak
  • Cramping in the muscles
  • Headache
  • Nauseated feeling
  • Darker urine
  • Dry mouth

Does drinking water help me lose weight?

Not exactly

The water itself will not make you lose weight, but drinking a couple of glasses of water with your main meals will make you feel fuller, meaning you’re less likely to overeat and find yourself in a calorie deficit. There is also evidence that it can boost your metabolism slightly also.

What if I find water boring?

Add a slice of lemon or lime for taste, or even some strawberries or mint for a fresh taste.
